Test Format and Content

Test Format

	Optically-scanned answer sheet Approximately 1 hour, 100 questions/Listening Section (approximately 25 minutes, 50 questions)/Reading Section (35 minutes, 50 questions)

The TOEIC Bridge Listening & Reading Tests use optically-scanned answer sheets. There are 100 questions to answer in about one hour in Listening (approximately 25 minutes, 50 questions) and Reading (35 minutes, 50 questions).
The tests are only in English. There are no questions involving translating from Japanese to English, or from English to Japanese. The directions are also only in English. The question formats are the same each time year. The answers are all given on a separate answer sheet, where you select the number that best corresponds with the answer and fill it in with your pencil.

Test Content

Listening (approx. 25 minutes/50 questions)
Part 1Four Pictures: 6 questions
The test taker hears a phrase or sentence and sees four pictures. The test taker selects the picture that the phrase or sentence best describes.
Part 2Question-Response: 20 questions
The test taker hears a question or statement and both hears and reads four possible responses. The test taker selects the best response to the question or statement.
Part 3Conversations: 10 questions
The test taker hears a short conversation between two speakers and answers two questions about the conversation. Some questions refer to a very short supporting text such as a sign or notice.
Part 4Talks: 14 questions
The test taker hears a short talk such as a message or announcement given by a single speaker and answers two questions about the talk. Some questions refer to a very short supporting text such as a sign or notice.
Reading (35 minutes/50 questions)
Part 1Sentence Completion: 15 questions
The test taker reads a sentence from which a word or phrase is missing and selects the word or phrase that best completes the sentence.
Part 2Text Completion: 15 questions
The test taker reads a multi-sentence text. A word, phrase, or sentence is missing in three places in the text. The test taker selects the best answer choice to complete the text.
Part 3Reading Comprehension: 20 questions
The test taker reads a text and answers two or three questions about it.
